Targa 2017 - Volunteer Day 1 (Race Day 3)

The race is over for us...and one of our other teams but not four of the other cars on the Hume Media team. So after an evening...and a bit of the morning spent in self-pity, we decided that we couldn't leave them. Instead we would do all we can to support them and have fun supporting Targa Newfoundland.

The next morning our team rallied around us and the other team that is out, reminding us that all great racers crash eventually. So we figure it is now out of the way and we are both okay, so we can make up for it next year...lol.  The Hume team is known for always having fun despite circumstances. And we continued to do so.

Andrew and I decided to join the volunteer team to do all we can to keep things safe! Andrew has been asked to serving as Course Marshall ensuring the courses are set up properly. As a competitor he has a unique perspective on the race course and is proving helpful at ensuring that community volunteers have put signs in the proper places and have taped off the course correctly.

I have been assigned to be a Competitor Relations Officer ensuring competitors are cared for. This means administering early morning breathalyzers, expediting resolution for competitor concerns or issues, and occasionally blocking off traffic and ensuring they cannot enter the rally course.

We are having a blast, seeing even more of Newfoundland, and enjoying getting to know both the competitors and volunteers well. Of course the opportunity to also visit Trinity's Aunt Sarah's Chocolate store also helps. Fabulous!!
